About My Art
I have been passionate about art in all its forms my entire life; I have cherished the pleasures as well as the many ways in which the arts--music, literature, fine art--have moved me, spirited me away from mundane, everyday life.
And so I am grateful that I have been able to touch others with my creations, make them feel joy and be moved in some way by my work.
I have a personal story about one of my pieces that will suffice to explain my process which is I do and then I see: One day years back I was fooling around in my studio, mindlessly slopping paint onto a canvas, any color going anywhere. As I was poking my brush into the canvas, I began to see a female emerge. I didn’t draw her, the colors and the shapes formed her. I saw immediately that it was my mother, not only because the image resembled her but because where the heart was, there was a burst of beautiful, vibrant pink and sunny yellow.
I have photos of my mom in different places in my home among my family pictures but that painting hangs in my dressing room on a wall next to my vanity where I begin my day. More than any photograph, I feel my mom’s presence in that painting; the impression of her, her essence comes through the shapes and colors more powerfully to me than any photo.
The “I do and then I see” is the way I work even in my most structured pieces. I sort of follow the shapes and colors I lay down until they come to what for me is a logical conclusion. It’s the same process whether it’s a soft floral or hard-edge geometric. It’s almost like I’m in conversation with a piece, asking it where it wants to go, what shapes it wants, what colors. Almost, LOL
The word that most describes how I feel when someone purchases my art is “honored.” It is also important to me that those who purchase my art feel a sense of exclusivity and value in ownership which is why all of my paintings are offered as limited editions.
Anyone is welcome to email me a photo of a space that a particular painting of mine is being considered for and I will place it digitally into the space in the desired size so it can be viewed exactly as it will appear in the space. (Naturally, same can be done for additional paintings and additional spaces.)
